BACKUP FEATURES

Keep earlier versions of your files.

MaxBackups includes encryption, incremental backups, and backup history in every plan. Browse your backup history by date to find the version you need.

Incremental by default

The first backup saves your selected files. Later backups use the previous backup record to skip reading unchanged files and reuse data that is already stored.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about MaxBackups.

Read about backups, restore options, and supported computers.

What is cloud backup?

Cloud backup saves copies of your files in online storage, separate from your computer. You can use those copies to recover a file you have lost or changed.

Do I need to buy or configure cloud storage?

No. Cloud storage is included in every MaxBackups plan. MaxBackups sets it up for you.

Does MaxBackups back up my whole computer?

No. MaxBackups backs up the files and folders you select. It does not create a bootable disk image or restore your operating system.

Can I restore one file instead of a whole backup?

Yes. Choose an available backup and restore a single file or a complete folder. You can also search your backup history for deleted files.

Are MaxBackups cloud backups encrypted?

Yes. Backup data is encrypted during transfer and in storage. MaxBackups manages the encryption keys, so you do not need to keep a separate recovery key.

How does incremental cloud backup work?

The first backup saves your selected files. Later backups use the previous backup record to skip reading unchanged files and reuse stored data. Each completed backup still lets you browse the full set of files saved at that time.

Which computers does MaxBackups support?

MaxBackups supports file and folder backup on Windows and macOS.

How long is my backup history kept?

Micro, Solo, and Family have a default maximum history of 12 calendar months. Company has 36 months. You can choose a shorter period for a backup job. The latest successful backup is kept while coverage is active and for 30 days after coverage ends. Storage retention and your right to access backups are separate; restore any files you need before your access ends.

Does the app need to stay running?

Yes. You can close the window while scheduled backups continue in the background. Choosing Quit stops them. Your computer must be running and connected to the internet for cloud backups. Launch at login lets MaxBackups start when you sign in.

Can MaxBackups access my encrypted backups?

MaxBackups manages the encryption keys, so it is not a zero-knowledge service. Authorised access or decryption may be needed for a requested restore or support operation, security investigations, or legal requirements. Access is restricted as described in the Privacy Policy.
