HOW INCREMENTAL BACKUP WORKS

Use the previous backup to reduce repeated work.

MaxBackups keeps a record of files from the last completed backup. Incremental backups use that record to avoid reading unchanged files again. Full backups read the selected files again, but can still reuse identical data already stored.

What is an incremental backup?

An incremental backup uses the previous backup's file record to skip reading unchanged files and reuse stored data. Each completed backup lets you browse and restore the files saved at that time.

Does MaxBackups support it on Windows and Mac?

Yes. Incremental backup is the default setting on both Windows and Mac.

Can I restore a complete folder?

Yes. You can restore an individual file or a complete folder from a retained snapshot.

Can I choose a full backup instead?

Yes. Choose full backup mode for a backup job. Both manual and scheduled backups use that setting. Data is still encrypted and compressed, and identical stored data is reused.

How long can I restore earlier versions?

Earlier versions are available while their snapshots remain in your backup history and your account has access. The default maximum history is 12 calendar months for Micro, Solo, and Family, and 36 months for Company. You can choose a shorter period for each backup job.

What happens when I pause or remove a schedule?

Pausing or removing a schedule stops future scheduled runs. Existing cloud backups are not automatically deleted by removing the local schedule. They remain subject to your plan's history limits, retention settings, and account access.
