Your backups are encrypted during transfer and storage.
Encryption makes backup data unreadable without the correct keys. MaxBackups manages those keys and saves a snapshot of each completed backup. A snapshot records the files saved at that time.

No. MaxBackups manages encryption and authorised recovery for you, so there is no separate recovery key to keep track of.
Is my backup content encrypted?
Yes. Backup content is encrypted while being transferred and while stored.
Where is the device sign-in token stored?
The app stores its device sign-in token in macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager, not in ordinary schedule settings.
Can I restore one file from an encrypted backup?
Yes. Browse a retained snapshot and restore one file or a complete folder to a destination you select.
Is MaxBackups a zero-knowledge service?
No. MaxBackups manages the encryption keys for your backups. Authorised access or decryption may be needed for a requested restore or support operation, security investigations, or legal requirements. Access is restricted as described in the Privacy Policy. Managed encryption lets MaxBackups support account-based recovery without requiring you to keep a separate recovery key.
What access does each computer receive?
The app receives credentials for its own backup repository, not a general API key for the storage provider. Repository credentials are requested when a backup or restore run needs them and are not stored with ordinary schedule settings.
How long are encrypted backups kept?
Encryption does not change your plan's backup history limits. The default maximum history is 12 calendar months for Micro, Solo, and Family, and 36 months for Company. Shorter job settings and account access also affect which backups you can restore.
