Encrypted cloud backup
Your backups are encrypted during transfer and in cloud storage. MaxBackups manages the encryption keys and lets you restore files through the app. Encryption, storage, and file history are included in every plan.

Three steps
Encryption makes backup data unreadable without the correct keys. MaxBackups manages those keys and saves a snapshot of each completed backup. A snapshot records the files saved at that time.

Backup content is encrypted while transferred to your included cloud storage.
Stored backups remain encrypted. You can restore files through your MaxBackups account.
Cloud storage and managed encryption are included in every plan.
Limited device access
Each connected computer uses access details for its own backup storage. The app requests the credentials it needs when a backup or restore runs.
The computer's backup credentials are limited to its own repository.
The app stores its device sign-in token separately from its ordinary schedule and progress settings.
MaxBackups manages the encryption keys for your backups. Restore your files through the app and your MaxBackups account.
Managed encryption
Managed encryption brings backup and restore into the same app. Choose an available backup, select your files, and restore them to a folder on your computer.
The FAQ below explains how managed encryption and authorised access work.
RESTORE YOUR FILES
Browse an available backup or search for a deleted file. Restore a file or folder to a location you choose. Restored folders are saved separately for you to review.
The app handles decryption during your restore.

See how encryption, recovery and device protection work.
Read the Privacy PolicyNo. MaxBackups manages encryption and authorised recovery for you, so there is no separate recovery key to keep track of.
Yes. Backup content is encrypted while being transferred and while stored.
The app stores its device sign-in token in macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager, not in ordinary schedule settings.
Yes. Browse a retained snapshot and restore one file or a complete folder to a destination you select.
No. MaxBackups manages the encryption keys for your backups. Authorised access or decryption may be needed for a requested restore or support operation, security investigations, or legal requirements. Access is restricted as described in the Privacy Policy. Managed encryption lets MaxBackups support account-based recovery without requiring you to keep a separate recovery key.
The app receives credentials for its own backup repository, not a general API key for the storage provider. Repository credentials are requested when a backup or restore run needs them and are not stored with ordinary schedule settings.
Encryption does not change your plan's backup history limits. The default maximum history is 12 calendar months for Micro, Solo, and Family, and 36 months for Company. Shorter job settings and account access also affect which backups you can restore.
