Keep Time Machine
Use MaxBackups alongside Time Machine.
Time Machine can keep backups on a connected drive. MaxBackups saves a separate cloud copy of the files and folders you choose. You can use both: one for local backups and one for backups stored away from your Mac.

BACKUP SETUP
Set up scheduled backups for your folders.
Select the folders you want to back up, then choose how often backups run. You can change the schedule and startup settings later.

Set the schedule
Run every six hours, daily, or weekly. Adjust the schedule in the app whenever you need to.

Choose whether to start at login
After connection, MaxBackups recommends launch at login. You can enable it, decline it, and change the choice later in Settings.

Incremental by default
Later backups focus on changed files.
The first backup saves your selected files. With the default incremental setting, later backups focus on new and changed data. Each completed backup still lets you browse the full set of files saved at that time.

Does MaxBackups replace Time Machine?
You can use MaxBackups alongside Time Machine. MaxBackups saves selected files and folders in cloud storage. Time Machine can still be used for local backups and moving to another Mac.
Is iCloud the same as a Mac backup?
Sync keeps current files available across devices. MaxBackups creates separate backups of selected folders. You can browse available backups by date and restore an earlier version.
What can I restore with MaxBackups on Mac?
You can restore a file, a folder, or all the files in an available backup. You can also search backup history for deleted files. Choose where to save the restored files.
Does MaxBackups create a bootable copy of my Mac?
No. MaxBackups backs up selected files and folders. It does not create a bootable copy, reinstall macOS, or restore your apps and system settings.
How does incremental backup work on Mac?
The first backup saves your selected files. Later incremental backups focus on new and changed data and reuse data already stored.
Do backups continue when I close the app window?
Yes. Closing the window keeps scheduled backups running in the background. Choosing Quit stops them. Your Mac must be running and connected to the internet, and MaxBackups must have permission to read the selected folders.
Where are my device sign-in details stored?
The app stores its device sign-in token in macOS Keychain, separately from ordinary settings and logs. This token connects your Mac to MaxBackups.
What happens when I remove a backup schedule?
Removing a schedule stops future scheduled runs for that job. It does not automatically delete existing cloud backups. Plan history limits, retention settings, and account access still apply.
